A representative for the Cultural Landscape Foundation, one of the groups advocating for the fountain to remain, slammed the board’s vote.

“The Board of Supervisor’s rejection of the appeal is part of the city’s broader abdication of its responsibility to maintain the Vaillancourt Fountain, and a victory for insincere transparency and institutional neglect,” said the foundation’s founding president and CEO, Charles A. Birnbaum. “It’s also part of a broader trend of threats to site-specific art in the public realm across the country.”
